Skybridge

I wrote this while waiting for my first appointment at MD Anderson. I had just walked that long skybridge and was overcome with emotion.

It was a long walk Down the skybridge to MD The fear in my heart Starts antagonizing me

I begin to tremble And tears fill my eyes How did this happen And take me by surprise

I glance all around me Watching the others pass Wondering how they feel And how long my fear will last

I see people with their bodies Ravaged by this disease Wanting an answer, a cure And needing a reprieve

I also see people Who can barely walk I really want to hug them And sit with them and talk

My heart breaks for each one For the pain that must consume them All the while thinking This too could be my condition

When I finally sit down Waiting for my MD I say a little prayer to God And ask Him to protect me
