This poem I wrote during my recovery from the Whipple procedure. Did you know, only 15 to 20 percent of people qualify for the Whipple procedure. This procedure was named after the man who refined the surgery in the 1930s, Allen Oldfather Whipple. Its medical name is pancreaticoduodectomy. This procedure is recommended when the tumor is in the head of the pancreas. The head of the pancreas, gallbladder, lymph nodes, part or all of the duodenum (small intestine), and part of the bile duct. On occasion some of the stomach may be removed.
When I first learned about the Whipple, I did not want to have it! It scared me. The procedure takes anywhere from 6-12 hours and they make an incision in your stomach from breastbone to below navel. Once I met with the immunologist and found out how fortunate I was to qualify, I was thankful!! God was in control!
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
Lord light my path
Show me the way
My feet should go
Don't let me stray
Lord light my path
Because I tend to wander
Not always focused on You
My time I squander
Lord light my path
And fill my heart
With Your amazing love
To me impart
